“My life is in danger” says Dr.Bahu

Leader of the New Left Front Dr. Wickremabahu Karunaratne said that the government is trying to silence him in order to stop criticism against the government.

Dr. Karunaratne told The Sunday Leader online that President Mahinda Rajapaksa is trying to take revenge from him for an alleged involvement in a protest campaign in UK and added that it was the President that has allowed goons to protest against him at the Bandaranayake International Airport (BIA) upon his arrival to the country yesterday afternoon.

“Two goons shouted at me for having hand with the LTTE to obstruct the President’s planned address at the Oxford Union. I do not have any hand into it. Why do they blame me? I asked them to go and ask the President as to what went wrong with his UK tour without pointing fingers towards anyone else,” he said.

According to Dr. Karunaratne, it appears to him that President Rajapaksa is not governing the country within the legal frame but out side the law through thuggery and added that his life is in danger.

“My life is now in danger. This is not the time for them to attack me but certainly they will try to silence me very soon,” he said.

11. In bezug auf die zurückgebliebeneren Staaten und Nationen, in denen feudale oder patriarchalische und patriarchalisch-bäuerliche Verhältnisse überwiegen, muß man insbesondere im Auge behalten:

erstens die Notwendigkeit, daß alle kommunistischen Parteien die bürgerlich-demokratische Befreiungsbewegung in diesen Ländern unterstützen; die Pflicht zur aktivsten Unterstützung haben in erster Linie die Arbeiter desjenigen Landes, von dem die zurückgebliebene Nation in kolonialer oder finanzieller Hinsicht abhängt;

zweitens die Notwendigkeit, die Geistlichkeit und sonstige reaktionäre und mittelalterliche Elemente zu bekämpfen, die in den zurückgebliebenen Ländern Einfluß haben;

drittens die Notwendigkeit, den Panislamismus und ähnliche Strömungen zu bekämpfen, die die Befreiungsbewegung gegen den europäischen und amerikanischen Imperialismus mit einer Stärkung der Positionen der Khane, der Gutsbesitzer, der Mullahs usw. verknüpfen wollen;

viertens die Notwendigkeit, speziell die Bauernbewegung in den zurückgebliebenen Ländern gegen die Gutsherren, gegen den Großgrundbesitz, gegen alle Erscheinungsformen oder Überreste des Feudalismus zu unterstützen und darauf hinzuarbeiten, daß die Bauernbewegung weitgehend revolutionären Charakter einnimmt, indem man ein möglichst enges Bündnis zwischen dem kommunistischen Proletariat Westeuropas und der revolutionären Bewegung der Bauern im Osten, in den Kolonien und überhaupt in den zurückgebliebenen Ländern herstellt. Insbesondere sind alle Anstrengungen darauf zu richten, die Grundprinzipien des Rätesystems auf Länder anzuwenden, in denen vorkapitalistische Verhältnisse herrschen, und zwar durch Gründung von „Räten der Werktätigen“ usw.;

fünftens die Notwendigkeit, einen entschiedenen Kampf zu führen gegen die Versuche, den bürgerlich-demokratischen Befreiungsströmungen in den zurückgebliebenen Ländern einen kommunistischen Anstrich zu geben. Die Kommunistische Internationale darf die bürgerlich-demokratischen nationalen Bewegungen in den Kolonien und zurückgebliebenen Ländern nur unter der Bedingung unterstützen, daß die Elemente der künftigen proletarischen Parteien, die nicht nur dem Namen nach kommunistische Parteien sind, in allen zurückgebliebenen Ländern gesammelt und im Bewußtsein ihrer besonderen Aufgaben, der Aufgaben des Kampfes gegen die bürgerlich-demokratischen Bewegungen innerhalb ihrer Nation, erzogen werden. Die Kommunistische Internationale muß ein zeitweiliges Bündnis mit der bürgerlichen Demokratie der Kolonien und der zurückgebliebenen Länder eingehen, darf sich aber nicht mit ihr verschmelzen, sondern muß unbedingt die Selbständigkeit der proletarischen Bewegung – sogar in ihrer Keimform – wahren;

sechstens die Notwendigkeit, unter den breitesten Massen der Werktätigen aller, insbesondere aber der zurückgebliebenen Länder unentwegt jenen Betrug aufzudecken und anzuprangern, den die imperialistischen Mächte systematisch begehen, indem sie scheinbar politisch unabhängige Staaten schaffen, die jedoch wirtschaftlich, finanziell und militärisch vollständig von ihnen abhängig sind; bei der heutigen internationalen Lage gibt es für die abhängigen und schwachen Nationen keine andere Rettung als einen Bund der Räterepubliken.

Help Free Reza: An open Letter by the Family of Reza Shahabi

To: Workers, workers’ organizations, human rights organizations and media

As you may be aware, Reza Shahabi, an imprisoned worker (the Treasurer and member of the board of directors of the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company) who is incarcerated in section 209 of Evin Prison, have gone on dry hunger strike since December 4, 2010; and, as a result of his previous poor health conditions and the illnesses which have been developed since his incarceration six months ago, his life is now seriously endangered. Although his release letter was issued on October 11, 2010 and a bail of 60 million Toman (about US$57,000) had been posted for him by his family, he has not been freed yet. On the other hand, another bail application with the amount of 100 million toman was given simultaneously to Reza to sign. Moreover, the two judicial authorities that we have been referred to are refusing to provide any information about Reza Shahabi’s case and even deny that they are in charge of his file.

Reza Shahabi has been in prison for six months only for defending workers’ rights. It has been two months since his conditional release has been issued, and now he is on dry hunger strike and we are worried about his already deteriorating health conditions. There is now an imminent danger to his health and we have no idea what other threats to his precarious health might await him.

We hereby call on all workers, labour organizations, human rights organizations, media and all concerned individuals to take all necessary steps for the unconditional freedom of Reza Shahabi, his imprisoned colleagues and other jailed workers.

Reza Shahabi, an imprisoned worker (the Treasurer and member of the board of directors of the Syndicate of Workers of Tehran and Suburbs Bus Company) who is incarcerated in section 209 of Evin Prison since June 12, 2010, have gone on dry hunger strike since December 4, 2010 to protest against his unjust incarceration and the refusal of authorities to release him despite the fact that his family had deposited 60 million Toman (about 57,000 US Dollar) as surety. He is refusing consumption of both food and liquids. Mr. Shahabi’s heath is in imminent danger.

I call on your government to release Reza Shahabi and other jailed workers immediately and unconditionally and to respect workers’ rights in Iran.

Press Statement – Police Violence and Vote on Tuition Fee Increase

The National Campaign Against Fees and Cuts utterly condemns the violence inflicted on demonstrators by the police on the 9th of December national demonstration in central London and reiterate that the passing of the bill on the tuition fee increase will not deter, nor discourage future actions.

The coalition government managed to pass the tuition fee increase by 21 votes only – a sign of how weak the government is and that it can be beaten.  Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, suffered a huge blow to his leadership policies as 21 of his MPs rebelled against the tuition fee increase.

The resistance will continue in the new year. The National Campaign Against Fees and Cuts, as well as thousands of students across the country, will not give in until these cuts and fee increases are stopped.

Mounted police charging and ‘kettling’ of protesters are disgusting attacks on people’s right to protest and cannot be justified. The demonstration was militant but good natured as thousands assembled in Parliament square. The police adopted a hands-off approach until around 15.30h when ‘kettling’ began, followed by increasingly violent assaults on students.

The police attacked protesters, journalists and even a demonstrator in a wheel chair, dragging him across the ground. Many people were hospitalised and at the time of writing (23.30h) many people were still contained in Westminster, a cruel form of collective punishment for defying the government.

Transfer of three Sahrawi human rights defenders to military court in Rabat

El Aaiun (Occupied Territories), December 8, 2010 (SPS) – The court of occupation decided Tuesday to transfer three Sahrawi human rights defenders Mohamed Tahlil, Bashir Khada and Hasan Dah to the military court in Rabat, after they were arrested on December 4, in the occupied city of El Aaiun, according to Sahrawi human rights sources.

Transferring the three detainees to the military court in Rabat, brings the number of all those who have been transferred to 18 detainees.

It should be recalled that the three human rights activists had been arrested, in the years 2005, 2006 and 2007, and suffered beating, harassment and persecution by Moroccan police. (SPS)
