Alliance Marxiste Revolutionnaire (AMR): The Specific Oppression of Women (1971) & Towards a Feminist Revolutionary Movement (1970)

Posted by entdinglichung - 1. Juni 2009

The Specific Oppression of Women (1971) -Towards a Feminist Revolutionary Movement (1970) (pdf-Datei, 1,75 mb)

„Men, in fact, including workers, bask in the ideology which makes them, to put it in a nutshell, the ’strong sex‘, so they do not suffer from the alienation of which they also are victims in the same way or to the same degree. They have a tendency, naturally, to profit from a position of strength and domination which bourgeois society assigns to them, at the same time as they are being exploited by it. This is why women must organise themselves alone: in fact they are the best able to understand their oppression and to struggle against it, and it would be wrong if there was recreated at the heart of a movement which has taken upon itself the liberation of women the same system of domination and pre-eminence of men over women (masked, of course) which is inherent in all bourgeois society, even in those who are exploited by the bourgeoisie, as a result of this common law that the ideology of the dominant class is the dominating ideology in any given society.

In fact they are nothing but the unconscious agents, the prefects of a system which is too much for them, which at the same time exploits them, alienates them, and puts them in a position where they are exploiting others: They are not the enemy, it is bourgeois society, and all that it implies as regards way of life and ideology. We must make allies of them, but we must first be strong and well-organised.“ (S. 40)
