Hormozgan Steel Complex Workeres Stage Protest

On August 23, about 100 steel workers at the Hormozgan Steel Complex in Southern Iran staged a protest gathering. The workers were protesting 300 workers not having received back wages in the last three months.

The complex located in the city of Bandar Abbas on the Persian Gulf employs a thousand workers and has been facing problems since contracting out work. The workers have been working for more than ten hours a day and still await their back wages. The authorities have promised to pay the workers’ wages in 15 days.

Kian Tires Workers Go on Strike

On August 19, the workers at Kian Tire went on strike closing down the gates of the factory warehouses. The workers were demanding back wages.

Earlier the management had promised to pay the July wages amounting to 300 US dollars, a promise later broken declaring lack of funds. The workers were also outraged by lack of inventory of new raw materials and the repair of broken equipment in recent days.

On August 21, the workers met with the management reprsentatives at Chahardangeh provisional administrative offices. The meeting went unresolved with the management threatening to call security forces to force open the warehouses.
