Chinua Achebe (1930-2013)

„Der Distriktverwalter entfernte sich mit drei oder vier seiner Soldaten. In den vielen jahren, in denen er sich redlich bemüht hatte, in einigen Teilen Afrikas die Segnungen der Zivilisation zu verbreiten, hatte er eine Reihe von Dingen gelernt. Eines dieser Dinge war, dass ein Distriktverwalter niemals einer so entwürdigende Ttigkeit beiwohnen durfte wie das Abschneiden eines erhängten Mannes von einem Baum. Das würde bei den Eingeborenen einen schlechten Eindruck hinterlassen. In dem Buch, dass er schreiben wollte, würde er diesen Punkt ganz besonders betonen. Jeder Tag brachte ihm neues Material. Die Geschichte von diesem Mann, der einen Gerichtsdiener getötet und sich dann selbst erhängt hatte, war spannend und lehrreich zugleich. Man könnte fast ein ganzes Kapitel über ihn schreiben. Oder vielleicht doch nicht ein ganzes, aber zumindest einen recht langen Abschnitt. Es gab noch so viel mehr zu berichten, und man konnte sich nicht in Einzelheiten verlieren. Er hatte, nach längerem Nachdenken, bereits den Titel seines Buches gewählt: Beiträge zur Befriedung der Eingeborenenstämme im Gebiet des Unteren Niger.“

Released on Nov. 20, Beck’s latest contribution to the American literary scene is Agenda 21, a dystopian novel set in a not-too-distant future in which America has been taken over by radical socialist environmentalist atheistic technocrats who steal babies and control all citizens with an iron fist, watching and reporting on everything they do.

Weirdly enough, Agenda 21 brings to mind no book so much as Margaret Atwood’s feminist masterpiece The Handmaid’s Tale, also set in a not-too-distant-future America. Atwood’s dystopian future is overseen by Christian televangelists who run a patriarchal dictatorship centered on reproduction in which women are completely subjugated to men, and reproduction is subjugated to everything.

Agenda 21 is a near-perfect political inverse with a very similar plotline. Its protagonist is Emmeline, a teenaged girl who lives in a Republic ruled by supreme leader “Fabian” (doubtless a reference to the Fabian Society, a U.K.-based socialist group that formed around the turn of the 20^th Century which favored a gradualist approach to implementing socialism and some of whose early members embraced eugenics) and countless minions who monitor every aspect of citizens’ lives.

und in New Jersey geht es schon los … und auch demographisch bewegt sich etwas, was Beck & Co. Furcht bereitet ;-)

Arthur B. Robinson ist Politiker, Republican und möchte gerne in einigen Wochen für den Oregon’s 4th congressional district in das Repräsentantenhaus der Vereinigten Staaten gewählt werden. In seinen Positionen zu Themen wie Umwelt, reproduktiven Rechte von Frauen, Waffenbesitz, Einwanderung, etc. ist er ein typischer rechter Republican. Arthur B. Robinson ist auch der Inhaber eines Verlags und Buchvertriebs namens Robinson Books, auf dessen Homepage im wesentlichen ein Autor, ein Pseudohistoriker und Reiseschriftsteller des 19. Jahrhunderts namens George Alfred Henty beworben wird, welcher heutzutage kaum noch gelesen wird … mit gewissen Ausnahmen:

„In the late 1990s, a number of American publishers, such as PrestonSpeed and the Lost Classics Book Company, began reprinting Henty’s books and advocating their usage for conservative homeschoolers. Reprints of all Henty’s works are available from modern day British and American publishers. One of the major modern advocates of Henty is the American politician Arthur B. Robinson, who advocated the use of Henty’s books as the backbone of a home schooling curriculum.“
