Repression gegen Mehrsprachigkeit in der Türkei

Während sich die AKP-Regierung gerne als kulturell- und minderheitenpolitisch liberal darstellt, wird gleichzeitig nicht nur die politische Opposition mit Repression überzogen (wobei die BRD-Behörden da gerne mithelfen): gleichzeitig wird an der Basis, in diesem Falle (wie [Türkei]aktuell berichtet) im Stadtbezirk Sur von Diyarbakir gegen Mehrsprachigkeit im öffentlichen Raum vorgegangen: verschwinden sollen dreisprachige (Türkisch/Kurmancî/Armenisch) Ortsschilder und eine Stellenausschreibung für eine ErzieherInnen-Stelle in einem Kindergarten seitens der Bezirksverwaltung wird zum Anlass eines Strafverfahrens, da in ihr die Beherrschung der armenischen Sprache verlangt wird:

„A rough periodisation of the Maoist movement in India might read as follows: The seminal years of “Naxalism” from the late 1960s to the end of 1972 were defined by a split from the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI) in 1967 when a large-scale exodus began, and by mass upsurges in various parts of West Bengal, in largely tribal-dominated districts, and in Srikakulam along the Andhra coast, construed by the split-away “Marxist-Leninists” as uprisings of the peasantry and struggles for state power. A period from the main part of the 1970s to the 1980s, when the movement reassembled itself outside Bengal, chiefly in central and southern Bihar and in the Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh. Here two major “armed-struggle” tendencies survived with substantial continuity through the whole of the 1970s: the Chandra Pulla Reddy group and a group around Kondapalli Seetharamaiah. A dramatic escalation of conflict from 1985 that would lead eventually to a wholesale militarisation of the movement in the 1990s and to the civil war that is currently raging in the tribal heartlands of the formerly undivided district of Bastar in the state of Chhattisgarh.“

„Durch die Betrachtung von Sprache in ihrem gesellschaftlichen Kontext wird klar, welche Bedeutungsverschiebungen sich im Laufe der Jahre ergeben. So war es für lange Zeit tatsächlich so, dass mit der Bezeichnung „Student“ tatsächlich nur männliche Studierende gemeint waren. Das war der Tatsache geschuldet, dass es nahezu ausschließlich Männer waren, die sich an den Hochschulen tummelten. Gerade die veränderte soziale Realität, in der auch Frauen an den Universitäten keine Seltenheit mehr sind, verleitet Decker nun zu dem Fehlschluss, diese Realität müsse ja in der von ihm bevorzugten Begrifflichkeit abgebildet sein. Er schließt hier jedoch von einer vorausgesetzten Existenz eines Begriffes („Student“) auf das damit Bezeichnete, das nun auf Gedeih und Verderb in dies vorgegebene Schema gepresst werden muss. Dieses Vorgehen jedoch hat mit materialistischer Gesellschaftstheorie nichts, mit reaktionärem Antifeminismus jedoch alles zu tun.“

* Felix Fechenbach: Im Haus der Freudlosen. Bilder aus dem Zuchthaus (1925, Knasterfahrungen des linkssozialdemokratischen Journalisten Felix Fechenbach, der 1918/19 in Bayern Sekretär in der Staatskanzlei in der Regierung Kurt Eisners war. August 1933 während des Transports in das KZ Dachau ermordet)

* Die britische Regierung hat offenbar neue Sprachregelungen („counter-terrorism phrasebook„) in der Terror-Bekämpfung verabschiedet: Statt „islamist extremism“ oder „jihadi-fundamentalist“ sollen nun Begriffe wie „violent extremism“, „criminal murderers“ oder „thugs“ (siehe dazu auch hier) verwendet werden … ob es dafür bei den nächsten Wahlen einen Wahlaufruf seitens des Muslim Council of Britain für Labour gibt, war nicht zu erfahren.

Januar starb in Anchorage/Alaska Udach‘ Kuqax*a’a’ch – Marie Smith Jones, die letzte Muttersprachlerin des Eyak, Chief der Eyak-Nation, Aktivistin für die Rechte der UreinwohnerInnen Alaskas und für die Bewahrung der natürlichen Lebensgrundlagen in dem 1989 durch die Exxon Valdes-Katastrophe verseuchten Gebiet der Eyak im Prince William Sound.

Streiflichter aus Britannien

Nach langen und teilweise erbittert ausgetragenen Auseinandersetzungen scheinen sich die SprecherInnen und FreundInnen der kornischen Sprache jetzt auf einen Weg geeinigt zu haben, zu einer von allen selbsternannten SprachpflegerInnen anerkannten, schriftsprachlichen Standardversion des Kornischen zu gelangen. Ein unabhängiger, von allen streitenden Parteien (den VertreterInnen der Varianten Kernewek Kemmyn, Kernewek Unys, Kernowek Unys Amendys und Kernuack Nowedga) anerkannteR VermittlerIn soll nun eine allgemein anerkannte Variante erstellen. Für eine wiederbelebte Sprache, welche nur von 300-500 Menschen fliessend und von vielleicht rund 5.000 SprecherInnen in Teilen beherrscht wird, keine schlechte Sache … ;-).

K. David Harrison hat mit When Languages Die. The Extinction of the World’s Languages and the Erosion of Human Knowledge eine interessante Studie zum Thema „Sprachtod“ vorgelegt, welche, fokussiert v.a. auf einige Sprachen und Communities im Osten der Russländischen Föderation ein faszinierendes aber auch bedrückendes Bild zeichnet: Die Mehrzahl der derzeit gesprochenen ca. 6.000 Sprachen werden noch zu unseren Lebzeiten zu „toten Sprachen“ werden.
